[Time] The first week of turn 5
He stayed up as late as he dared, woke earlier than he wanted, hoping to catch Lyndee... what? In an unguarded moment? Maybe. Maybe if he was always awake, always there for her, no matter what time she came in, she'd say something to him instead of this cold, cool nothing. Like he was a chair, or a spinnerweb she hadn't bothered to clear away yet. She probably hoped he'd just give up and move out, and Faranth knew it would be more comfortable, but he wasn't going to give up. Not on her, not on them.
He didn't know what else he could do. In case she was paying attention he wasn't going anywhere near Aileen - not that he would have, even had things between him and Lyndee not been rocky. She was a mistake. As much as he wanted a son, he'd wanted one with Lyndee. Not with this... not with her. Shells.
Maybe I can't fix this, he thought in the middle of one too-long night, his eyes burning from staring at the stars. Their ledge was empty - still empty - save for Sevuuth curled up behind him. He didn't know where Dallianth was, where Lyndee was. With the weyrlings, maybe. Probably. He hoped. And then the thought came to him in a burst of either inspiration or stupidity, he wasn't sure which. What if he stepped down as S'dric's wingsecond? What if he applied to Geneve to assist with the weyrlings? She'd probably laugh. No, she would laugh. But maybe... maybe it would show her how serious it was. Maybe he could fix this.

New faces? Wed May 20 L'ten
---------------------------------------- --------------------------------------
In the middle of the last month of the turn a brown dragon arrived in the bowl and brought in two new faces. The dragon himself wasn't a surprise - Sevuuth is well known - and neither is the arrival of strangers, what with the frequent clutches, and the need to bring in Candidates. But... two -women-? Whyever would L'ten bring in /women/ for the clutch? Has Lyndee finally brought him around to her way of thinking?

[Time] Day 10, month 3, turn 4
He couldn't see, but he could remember. He remembered green - trees, fields, a river. And blue - the sky, rain, a wide ocean. He remembered snow and summer: they blanketed him alternately until he shivered and sweated and they weren't always good at taking turns. There were voices, too. He could pick them out. The older man, reassuring. Younger women and men, by turns brisk or calm, comforting or worried. He didn't think they were his sisters and brothers, but he wasn't always sure.
There was one presence, though, that he was absolutely certain of. He was there when he woke up, there when he drifted off again. When the nightmares came, he kept the worst of the monsters away. He chattered when he could bear to hear, was silent when he couldn't. He found himself leaning on the other for the most trivial things: for the weather, for the time of day, the memory of snow or woodsmoke or solace. And always, always, the scent of tea, the comfort of warmth and steam.

He burned and shivered, tried to push the pillow off his face. Someone said, "Shh," and someone said, "He's awake!" and someone said, "Get his hands!" and he wanted to tell them he couldn't breathe and he was being boiled in a stew. Then his mother was there, smelling of tea and worry and she brought burnt snow with her that cooled the stew and warmed the ice. It tasted terrible, tasted bitter, but when tried to protest someone said, "Drink it," and someone told him hush and that he'd stay right here until he came back. Then his mother swooped him into the lake and he floated down the river, knowing she was there for him.
